Known as the longest construction site in Germany, VDE 8 is the construction of a high speed rail line between Berlin and Nuremberg. When it opens in 2017, the journey time from Berlin to Munich will be just four hours, a reduction of two hours.
The project includes the construction of 221km of new line, the upgrade of 277km of existing line, 63.7km of tunnelling and 27.8km of viaducts. The whole project will cost around 10billion Euros (£8billion) and has been under phased construction since 1996.
We are delivering the project in collaboration with the customer. All stakeholders have been involved in the planning process, including; contractor, designer and customer and therefore all targets agreed collaboratively.
